Rob Roy BC Juniors scooped up another armful of prizes at two separate events over the Bank Holiday weekend.

At the prestigious Junior Sculling Regatta held on the Olympic course at Eton Dorney, Brett Taylor (15) won a silver medal in the J16 single sculls; the J16 quadruple scull of brothers Oliver and Dylan Montes, Tomoaki Hori and Kos Kostov won their B final, racing two South African crews to the line; and the WJ15 double scull of Priya Babla and Liberty Wright, at only their second major regatta, raced to exhaustion and came a highly creditable 3rd in their C final.

Next day, and closer to home, Priya and Liberty had recovered sufficiently to romp home at the Cambridge City Sprints, winning the WJ15 double sculls event.

Brett Taylor, fresh from his Junior Sculling Regatta silver, jumped into the Rob Roy Junior J17 double scull with Matteo Curtis at the last minute, after a bike crash put Ben Tomlinson out of action – and won the event.

Grace Church and Lily Smith Howell, in their first regatta together, won the WJ14 double sculls event; Matt Allen, last weeks’ gold medallist at the Junior Inter-regional Regatta, won his J14 single sculls event and reached the final of the Open Men’s singles sculls event.

And, sweeping the board in an outstanding display, Rob Roy WJ13 sculler, Ella Darrington won not only the WJ14 single sculls event but also the WJ15 event; having to hold up the regatta having won her first final in order to get back to the start to race the second one!

Jo Burch, Rob Roy Junior Squad Coordinator, commented, “Once again, the Rob Roy juniors raced like champions: they deserve all the prizes they win, for the sheer courage they display, pushing themselves to the limit every stroke of the way!”
