With another episode of Town Bumping Races now past, all Rob Roy Boat Club crews entered can be proud of their accomplishments. There were no bumps made on Robs crews and one crew won blades. Robs entered four crews this year, all racing in Division One with M1 chasing for the headship.

M1 was deemed to have rowed over every night, despite prolonged significant overlap with Cantabrigian’s M1 during the final quarter of Friday’s race. Crews racing beyond The Plough need to make physical contact to claim a bump and actual contact remained elusive, regardless of calls late in the headship race from the bank by an official race marshal for Cantabs to concede. With the Robs crew clearly the stronger M1, having worried leader Cantabs from the onset of this year’s final race, Rob’s very close bid for headship was foiled in its final strokes with a crab at bow, caught in the choppy water of Cantab’s close bowside puddles.

W1 rowed over every night in division one, starting and finishing at sixth position.

M2 brought their Henley Master’s winning style into play and won blades, bumping up before the Plough every night to finish fifth in division one.

M3‘s scratch crew gathered together a broad range of men from juniors to masters, including 15 year-old Angus McLuskie, who had learned to sweep oar row the week prior to racing, and club President Chris Parkhouse, whose heavy business commitments precluded rowing training for over a year. Starting at position 17 in Division One, M3 bumped up on Wednesday and otherwise rowed over, disappointing City 4’s three day ascent charge for blades on Friday, with Robs M3 ending at position 16.
Post-race celebrations came together with some excellent last-minute arrangements resulting in a superbly well-stocked BBQ feast at the Rutter household. Wonderful food, great company and a lovely venue, all much appreciated.Well done to all. Catch U next year 🙂
