To celebrate our club’s website relaunch, we have a competition courtesy of Godfrey Sports. Godfreys have offered a pair of navy blue multi-use pogies worth £18 to keep our prize winner’s hands warm this year whether rowing or sculling. To enter just tell us what you think is best about rowing or sculling. Send your answer to communications [at] robroyboatclub.org.uk. Entries for the Godfreys competition close before the Spring newsletter publication (which will be springtime…) This competition will be judged by our previous competition winner Reid Jameson Potts (pictured left, wearing his prize). Robs 11 year-old junior squad member Reid won the Autumn newsletter competition with his caption about syncopated rowing. Reid’s winning caption is “It’s Mexican wave rowing!”

About Godfrey Sports Here is an excerpt from Judith Godfrey’s lovely potted history of her business:

Godfrey Textiles was founded in 1978, when my brothers were rowing on the international circuit. Like many other rowers, they couldn’t buy the kind of clothing they wanted to wear in the boat, so they asked me to design and produce specialist kit. I started with simple garments such as towelling shorts (remember those?!) with double seats, and then went on to introduce all-in-one suits and the Godfrey waterproof, a first for rowing.Just before the 1986 World Championships, we moved production from my front bedroom to a shared factory unit and demand for our garments grew and grew. In April 2005, we moved into an even larger industrial plant to increase our production capacity and keep up with demand. Recently, we have invested more time, effort and money into developing new products, finding the best performing fabrics available and of course, designing kit for the fashion-conscious rower.
