Five golds and one silver made the Rob Roy BC junior squad the most successful club at Peterborough Junior Championships on Sunday, winning them the Victor Ludorum trophy. In blistering heat and challenging windy conditions, the Rob Roy junior crews raced through heats, semi-finals and finals over 1000m, often with only half an hour between races, to win convincingly against crews from clubs and schools across the country.

The Rob Roy Junior Squad Coordinator, Jo Burch, was thrilled with the results, “Our juniors have trained extremely hard all year and deserved their success – we took 14 juniors to the regatta and came home with 13 medals! This sets the juniors up brilliantly for the Junior National Championships in 3 three weeks’ time. Our superstar combination of Matt Allen and Ella Darrington was amazing and won their gold as a mixed crew against all the other all-boy combinations! I am very proud of all our juniors who raced – they all sculled superbly – even those who were unlucky and missed out on the vital 2nd places in the heats to take them through to the semi-finals.”
